The ‘Downton Abbey 2’ Release Date Delayed to Spring 2022

Julian Fellowes developed and co-wrote Downton Abbey, a British historical drama television series set in the early twentieth century. The series premiered on ITV in the United Kingdom on September 26, 2010, and PBS in the United States on January 9, 2011, as part of its Masterpiece Classic anthology.

The series, set between 1912 and 1926 in the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey, depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants in the post-Edwardian era great events of the time affecting their lives and the British social hierarchy. The first series depicted the news of the Titanic’s sinking; the second series depicted the onset of World War I, the Spanish influenza pandemic, and the Marconi scandal.

In the third series, the Irish War of Independence led to the foundation of the Irish Free State; in the fourth series, the Teapot Dome affair; in the fifth series, the British general election of 1923 and the Beer Hall Putsch. The sixth and final series introduces the interwar rise of the working class and foreshadows the eventual decline of the British nobility.

Who all are the cast for the second series?

Downton Abbey 2 stars Michelle Dockery as Mary Talbot, Matthew Goode as Henry Talbot, Maggie Smith as Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham, and Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, all reprising their roles from the previous film. Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West have joined the sequel film in addition to the returning cast members.

Is there going to be a clash due to the Downton Abbey 2 release date delayed?

This new release date bumps Downton Abbey 2 up against Lionsgate’s The Unbreakable Boy, but that shouldn’t be an issue for Downton, especially with the show’s devoted fans.

Many stars, including Dockery and Dan Stevens, who played Matthew Crawley before his character was killed off the show in the third season, rose to mainstream prominence as a result of the original series.

How long do we need to wait?

We won’t be able to return to Downton until next spring, but who doesn’t want to see what drama awaits our favourite family and their adoring waitstaff? Downton Abbey 2 is set to wrap production in August, with the anticipated sequel eventually hitting theatres on March 18, 2022.
