With only two weeks until the release of A24 and David Lowery’s cryptic horror fantasy thriller The Green Knight at the end of this month, the first critical reactions have arrived. The Green Knight will hit theatres on July 30.
David Lowery is an American filmmaker who was born on December 26, 1980. At the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, his original work Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, starring Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck, was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.
In 2016, he directed the live-action Disney picture Pete’s Dragon, which he co-wrote. It was a new work largely based on the same original narrative as the Disney musical of the same name, which debuted in 1977. He directed The Old Man and the Gun in 2018.

Why was the film delayed?
The Green Knight was supposed to have its international premiere at the 2020 SXSW Film Festival before being postponed several times due to the pandemic.
This further increased our anticipation for Lowery’s adaptation of the 14th century English epic poem “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,” which tells the narrative of Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s nephew, who sets out on a mission to defeat the titular Knight – a huge, Treebeard-like creature.
Who all are starring in the show?
In addition to Dev Patel as Sir Gawain, the cast includes Joel Edgerton, Alicia Vikander, Sean Harris as King Arthur, Kate Dickie as Queen Guinevere, Sarita Choudhury as Morgan Le Fay, Erin Kellyman, and Barry Keoghan. Lowery wrote and directed the picture, which was co-written and directed by Tim Headington, Toby Halbrooks, James M. Johnston, and Theresa Steele Page.
What are the various reactions after the trailer release?
“Call me old fashioned, but I was taught to take care of Dev Patel, prepare his plate every night, wash his work clothes for him, make sure he’s up for work the next morning, always have a clean house for him to come home to, and that’s exactly the wife I will be,” one admirer said.
“Looks like another gorgeous entrance into the dev patel is the lovely and brilliant cinematic universe,” another said. Many people praised the film’s lavish visual design, with one saying, “I am DROOLING over these graphics.”
What are Dev Patel’s upcoming projects?
Dev Patel’s directorial debut will be the vengeance thriller Monkey Man, which will be broadcast on Netflix in 2022. “I am ecstatic to be collaborating with Netflix on this adventure,” Patel said in a statement. “I think this is a new addition to the genre at the moment in our industry when my story can become our story.”
