Renowned singer and actress Cher, 77, has filed for a conservatorship for her son, Elijah Blue Allman, as a response to his alleged severe substance abuse issues. Court documents filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court reveal that Cher is seeking to become the sole conservator of her son’s estate, citing concerns over his inability to manage his financial resources effectively.
According to the legal filings, Elijah is set to receive assets from a trust later this year. However, Cher contends that a conservatorship is urgently required to safeguard his property from potential loss or harm due to his severe mental health and substance abuse struggles. The documents also state that Elijah’s estranged wife, Marieangela King, is not a suitable conservator due to their tumultuous history marked by drug addiction and mental health crises.
The filing expresses concerns that any funds allocated to Elijah could be immediately spent on drugs, jeopardizing his well-being. Cher, who has reportedly made significant efforts to secure treatment for her son, emphasizes her deep love for him and her commitment to his best interests. His current mental and physical health issues have prevented him from participating in discussions about the appointment of a temporary conservator.
A representative for Cher has not yet responded to for any comment. A hearing for a temporary order has been scheduled for January 5, 2024, with a hearing on a permanent order set for March 6, 2024.
Cher’s recent legal action comes in the wake of a publicized incident in November 2022, where it was reported that she had allegedly hired individuals to intervene in her son’s substance abuse struggles while he was staying at a New York City hotel. However, Cher denied these allegations, stating that the rumor was untrue.
The court documents also mention claims made by Marieangela King that Cher had engaged the men to remove Elijah from their hotel room as they were attempting to reconcile their marriage. King asserted that they were working on their relationship during a 12-day period in November. She also claimed that one of the individuals involved in the intervention mentioned that Cher had hired them.
Throughout this challenging period, Cher has remained steadfast in her commitment to her children. She has openly acknowledged her son’s struggles with substance abuse and emphasized the love and support she provides as a mother.
“I’m not suffering from any problem that millions of people in the United States aren’t,” Cher said regarding her son’s battle with addiction. “I’m a mother. This is my job – one way or another, to try to help my children. You do anything for your children. Whenever you can help them, you just do it because that’s what being a mother is. But it’s joy, even with heartache – mostly, when you think of your children, you just smile and you love them, and you try to be there for them.”
