Disney has officially confirmed the digital release date for “The Marvels“ and unveiled the exciting bonus content that will accompany its online release. The film’s theatrical release had sparked curiosity among fans about when it would start streaming on Disney+.
“The Marvels,” Marvel Studios’ 33rd theatrical movie, premiered in theaters on November 10 as part of Phase 5 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, it faced mixed reviews and a disappointing box office performance.
Following its theatrical run, “The Marvels“ will be available for purchase on digital platforms like Apple TV, Amazon, and Google Play on Tuesday, January 16. This marks a 67-day gap between the theatrical and digital release, with no official word on when it will be available on Disney+.
In addition to the digital release, “The Marvels” will hit physical formats on February 13, including 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Fans can look forward to exclusive bonus content, such as deleted scenes, a gag reel, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and audio commentary from co-writer and director Nia DaCosta and VFX Supervisor Tara DeMarco.
Among the four deleted scenes included in the bonus features are moments involving Kamala Khan, Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala’s mother, Muneeba. These scenes offer additional insights into the characters and their adventures.
Additionally, featurettes like “Entangled” will delve into the challenges of producing the film, including the MCU’s first-ever musical number in the city of Aladna. “The Production Diaries” will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the camaraderie among the cast and crew during filming.
Fans eager to see “The Marvels” on Disney+ can look at the release patterns of recent MCU films. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” debuted on the streaming service 82 days after its theatrical release, while “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” arrived on Disney+ 89 days after hitting theaters.
A potential indicator for “The Marvels” is “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania,” which had a 90-day gap between theatrical and streaming release. However, it’s worth noting that the delays in Jonathan Majors’ legal issues may have influenced this timeline.
Considering these precedents, “The Marvels” could potentially make its way to Disney+ between January 30 and February 13. Given the film’s critical reception and box office performance, Marvel Studios might opt for an earlier streaming release.
In any case, fans can mark their calendars for January 16, when “The Marvels” will be available for online purchase, offering a chance to revisit the superhero saga and explore the exciting bonus content.
