Jonathan Majors has broken his silence regarding his recent assault conviction and the subsequent fallout that led to his departure from Marvel Studios and the MCU. In March 2023, Majors was arrested on charges of assault, and in December of the same year, he was convicted of misdemeanor assault and harassment. Following his conviction, Marvel Studios swiftly cut ties with the actor, leaving fans questioning the future of his character, Kang.
In an interview with ABC News Live, Majors candidly discussed his behavior and his reaction to the jury’s verdict. He emphasized that the verdict seemed incongruent with the presented evidence, both from the prosecution and his defense, expressing his disbelief, saying, “How is that possible?”
The trial centered around an altercation between Majors and his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, triggered by a text message found on Majors’ phone. Disagreement surrounds the subsequent events, with Jabbari alleging that Majors physically assaulted her by grabbing her arm and restraining her, causing injuries including cuts, bruises, and a broken finger. Majors vehemently denied these allegations, asserting that he was not responsible for her injuries.
He expressed his desire to uncover the truth, stating, “I wish to God I knew [how the injuries actually happened]. That would give clarity. That would give me some type of peace about it.”
Addressing his departure from the role of Kang in the MCU, Majors disclosed the profound impact it had on him, describing the moment he received the news as feeling like “the world stopped.” Despite the setback, he remained optimistic about his future in Hollywood, stating his hope to continue acting.
In response to Majors’ statements, Grace Jabbari’s attorney criticized his lack of accountability for his actions and questioned the timing of his remarks, suggesting a lack of remorse.
Clips from Majors’ interview were aired on Good Morning America, with the full segment scheduled to be broadcast on ABC News Live’s Prime with Linsey Davis.

The future of Kang in the MCU remains uncertain following Majors’ departure. Kang has already made appearances in two MCU projects, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania“ and “Loki,” and is set to be the central antagonist in the upcoming “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” in 2026. Marvel Studios faces options that include recasting Kang, distancing the character from Majors, or exploring new antagonists for the Multiverse Saga.
Reports have hinted at discussions within Marvel Studios about sidelining Kang, particularly after the character received mixed reception in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” With only “Deadpool 3″ slated for MCU release in 2024, Marvel has some time to evaluate its choices moving forward. The studio’s decision regarding Kang will undoubtedly be a topic of keen interest for MCU fans as the franchise continues to evolve.
