In a stunning triumph, ‘The Bear‘ claimed the prestigious title of Best Comedy Series at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night, adding another feather to its cap after securing four Emmys at the Creative Arts awards a day earlier.
Produced by FX and streamed on Hulu, ‘The Bear‘ emerged as the night’s shining star with a total of three Golden Globe wins. The series also earned accolades for its lead actors, Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White, who took home the honors for their exceptional performances.
Facing stiff competition in the category, ‘The Bear’ outshone fellow nominees such as last year’s winner, ABC’s ‘Abbott Elementary,‘ HBO’s ‘Barry,’ Freevee’s ‘Jury Duty,’ Hulu’s ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ and Apple TV+’s ‘Ted Lasso.’
‘The Bear’ skyrocketed to fame in its second season, amassing over 3.5 billion minutes of viewing time on Hulu within five weeks of its release, a remarkable feat compared to its initial season’s performance. The series also garnered a whopping 13 Emmy nominations for its second season, including the coveted Best Comedy Series.
Lionel Boyce, a cast member of ‘The Bear,’ accepted the Golden Globe for Best Comedy with humility, confessing, “I don’t know why they chose me for this acceptance speech. I guess maybe we thought we wouldn’t win.” This modesty only added to the charm of the show’s big weekend success.
