Fans of the hit series “House of the Dragon“ can rejoice as the eagerly awaited second season is officially set to premiere in the summer of 2024. The news comes straight from the mouth of Matt Smith, the actor portraying the charismatic Daemon Targaryen in the show, who shared the exciting update in a recent interview.
Despite the challenges faced by the entertainment industry due to strikes among actors and screenwriters in Hollywood, “House of the Dragon” remained unaffected. This fortunate circumstance allowed the production team to adhere to their original schedule, ensuring that the second season would continue its journey without delay after the conclusion of the first season.
In his interview, Matt Smith mentioned, “August, I think, I think summer. This summer, yeah. I’ve not seen any of it yet, but we finished last year.” Interestingly, the first season of “House of the Dragon” also premiered in August, specifically in 2022. This consistency suggests that fans can anticipate another thrilling summer debut for the upcoming season.
In addition to the release window, the show’s creators have also unveiled the talented lineup of directors who will helm all eight episodes of the second season. Alan Taylor, a “Game of Thrones“ veteran, is set to direct episodes 1 and 4, while Clare Kilner will oversee episodes 2 and 5. Geeta Patel will direct episodes 3 and 8, Andrig Parekh will take charge of the sixth episode, and Loni Peristere will guide the seventh.
Furthermore, the stellar cast that brought the world of Westeros to life in the first season will remain unchanged. Alongside Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, fans can look forward to seeing Emma D’Arcy reprise her role as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke returning as Alicent Hightower. The ensemble also includes Eve Best as Rhaenys Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon, and Fabien Frankel portraying Ser Criston Cole.
