Marvel Studios’ “What If…?” season 2 broke new ground by introducing the MCU’s first original superhero, Kahhori, and fans are now wondering if she could transition from animation to live-action in the MCU.
“What If…?” season 2 took a different approach by releasing an episode every day for nine consecutive days during the 2023 holiday season. While continuing the tradition of exploring alternate realities and variant characters, the series introduced Kahhori in the episode titled “What If… Kahhori Reshaped the World?” In this episode, a young Mohawk woman gains superpowers after the Tesseract crash-lands in pre-colonial America, transforming her into the MCU’s first original superhero, Kahhori.
Kahhori, imbued with the powers of the Space Stone, quickly masters her abilities and joins forces with other heroes in the series, including Captain Carter and Doctor Strange Supreme. Her debut has sparked curiosity among fans about the possibility of her making the leap to the live-action MCU.
One potential opportunity for Kahhori to return to the MCU could be in the upcoming “Avengers: Secret Wars“ set for 2027. This project is expected to feature characters from various alternate realities, including those from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men and Fantastic Four, Sony’s Spider-Man-related characters, and even characters from the MCU’s animated stories. This multiverse event could provide the perfect context for Kahhori’s live-action debut, much like Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter appeared in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”
While “Avengers: Secret Wars” is a promising option, there are other possibilities for Kahhori’s return. The multiversal adventures of Deadpool and Wolverine in “Deadpool 3″ (2024) could bring characters from “What If…?” into the MCU, potentially including Kahhori. Additionally, Kahhori’s Native American heritage could tie into the upcoming “Echo” series, although the character’s Infinity Stone-powered abilities might not align with the grounded nature of the series.
While there has been no official confirmation of Kahhori’s return to the MCU, fans hope to see her utilize her unique powers in future live-action projects. If Kahhori does make the transition, many believe that Canadian Mohawk actor Devery Jacobs, who voiced the character in “What If…?” season 2, should reprise the role in live-action. Jacobs’ portrayal of Kahhori was well-received, and her upcoming appearance as Bonnie in “Echo” further fuels speculation about her potential return as Kahhori.
