Zendaya, the celebrated actress and singer, made a subtle yet significant move on her Instagram account recently when she unfollowed everyone she was following, including her boyfriend, Tom Holland. The decision caught the attention of fans and media alike, sparking curiosity about the reasons behind this social media cleanse.
Zendaya’s last Instagram post, shared on January 1, was a promotional one for her upcoming film “Challengers.” In the caption, she wrote, “Challengers April 26th. Wishing you all the most beautiful new year✨.” It’s not uncommon for celebrities to clear their Instagram feeds or unfollow everyone when they are preparing to announce a new project, creating anticipation and generating buzz.
Despite the social media move, Zendaya and Tom Holland’s real-life relationship remains intact. Holland still follows Zendaya’s Instagram account, suggesting that the unfollowing spree was part of a strategic decision rather than a personal one.
Over the holidays, Zendaya and Tom Holland were spotted together, attending the musical “The Little Big Things“ on London’s West End just before Christmas. They even posed for a photo backstage with the show’s star, Malinda Parris, who later shared the picture online and affectionately called the couple “the SWEETEST.”
Zendaya opened up about the public’s interest in her relationship with Holland during an interview with ELLE last summer. She addressed how public approval made it easier to accept the attention, saying, “Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public. I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love. But also, I do have control over what I choose to share. It’s about protecting the peace and letting things be your own but also not being afraid to exist. You can’t hide. That’s not fun, either. I am navigating it more than ever now.”
Zendaya also mentioned that she noticed a significant shift in the level of attention she received, particularly after her work on the last Spider-Man film and the latest season of “Euphoria.” She described how it became challenging to go out without drawing attention, especially during her time in Boston. She stated, “Before, I could get away with going places and getting in and out. But in Boston [last spring], I would end up going right back home, because it was really overstimulating. Everybody would go hang out at a bar or something, and I’d be like, ‘I’d love to, but I think I could ruin everybody’s night. Because it’s just not going to be fun once I’m there.'”
