Jennifer Lopez Steps in Netflix’s sci-fi thriller ‘Atlas’

Jennifer Lopez is already busy building up her development slate after signing a recent first-look agreement with Netflix. The actress-pop singer will star in Netflix’s “Atlas,” a sci-fi thriller directed by Brad Peyton of “Rampage” fame.

According to insiders, Lopez, who just signed a first-look agreement with the streamer, will also produce the movie Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures, and Peyton and Jeff Fierson for ASAP Entertainment Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina for Nuyorican Productions. Courtney Baxter will serve as executive producer, with Matt Schwartz on board as a co-producer.

What’s the storyline?

Atlas, a woman battling for humanity in a future where an artificial intelligence (AI) soldier has determined that the only way to end the conflict is to eliminate humanity, is the subject of the film.

Atlas must collaborate with the one thing she fears the most to outthink this rogue AI – another AI.

How is Lopez’s relationship going?

Meanwhile, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez appear to have rekindled their romance over two decades after breaking off their engagement. Lopez and Affleck initially met on the production of the comedy film “Gigli” in early 2002, and they got engaged later that year before splitting up in 2004.

The ex-couple was pictured together again at a Sunday dinner outing at Nobu restaurant in Malibu, California. Lopez and Affleck’s revived affair first surfaced in April, when they were sighted outside her home in Los Angeles following her divorce from Alex Rodriguez.

What are Lopez’s upcoming projects?

Lopez’s future films include the Universal romantic comedy Marry Me, in which she co-stars with Owen Wilson and the Lionsgate action comedy Shotgun Wedding. Both films will be released in 2022. CAA and The Medina Co. represented her.

What is Peyton’s reaction to the project?

I’m thrilled to be working with Jennifer, Elaine, and the rest of the Nuyorican Productions team, as well as our Safehouse collaborators Joby and Tory,” Peyton added. “Having the opportunity to direct Jennifer in the title role of this film is a dream come true for me, as I know she will bring the great strength, depth, and honesty that we have all grown to adore from her work.

Furthermore, Jeff and I are thrilled to be resuming our collaboration with Scott, Ori, and the entire Netflix team. They have been nothing short of incredible to work with, and we are grateful for the opportunity to do another film for the service.”
