Rumors of Gosling’s meeting with MCU mastermind Kevin Feige had already made headlines in December 2023, triggering a flurry of conjecture about the character he might inhabit within the expansive Marvel universe.
Fresh off the success of his recent hit movie “Barbie,” Ryan Gosling finds himself at an exhilarating juncture, potentially embarking on another billion-dollar franchise venture. Notably, the actor was reportedly not well-versed in the lore of Nova, also known as Richard Rider. As speculations ran rampant, fans engaged in spirited debates about which Marvel persona would best suit the versatile star of “La La Land.”
Daniel RPK, a seasoned industry insider with a track record of accurate leaks, now suggests that Ryan Gosling is earmarked to portray Richard Rider in the MCU. While initial reports of talks between the actor and the franchise emerged a month ago, the role had remained unconfirmed, fueling a plethora of fan theories regarding the perfect Marvel character for Gosling.
The character of Nova, also known as Richard Rider, made his Marvel Comics debut in September 1976 in a comic book titled “The Man Called Nova.” The character’s origin is intricately woven into Marvel’s history, initially appearing as Star, an alien physician, in 1966’s “Super Adventures” issue #3. Subsequently, he was reimagined as Black Nova, a superhero born from a prisoner’s transformation in issue #6.
Over the years, Nova evolved, including the introduction of a teenage version named Sam Alexander in Fantastic Four comics during the 1970s. After a period of relative obscurity, the character resurfaced in 1989’s “The Mighty Thor” issue #411 as a member of the New Warriors superhero team.
