Mexican actor Adan Canto, best known for his roles in popular US TV shows like “Designated Survivor” and films like “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” has passed away at the age of 42. Canto had been battling appendiceal cancer, as confirmed by his publicist.
In “Designated Survivor,” Canto portrayed the national security adviser alongside Kiefer Sutherland, who paid a heartfelt tribute to his co-star, describing him as “such a wonderful spirit.” Canto’s portrayal of the mutant Sunspot in the 2014 film “X-Men: Days of Future Past” earned him recognition, and co-star Halle Berry later cast him in her movie “Bruised.” Berry expressed her grief on Instagram, saying, “I don’t have the words just yet… but my dear sweet friend Adan just gained his wings. Forever, forever in my heart.”
Canto’s wife, Stephanie Ann, shared a touching photo of the couple along with a Bible passage and the words: “Forever my treasure Adan, see you soon.” His publicist, Jennifer Allen, stated, “Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever. He will be greatly missed by so many.”
Canto played Aaron Shore in “Designated Survivor,” a show that initially aired on ABC in 2016 and 2017 before Netflix picked it up for a third and final season. His co-stars, including Maggie Q and Italia Ricci, expressed their sorrow and admiration for the actor’s character and kindness.
In 2022, Canto starred as gangster Arman Morales in Fox’s crime drama “The Cleaning Lady,” and the network paid tribute, saying, “He’ll always be our Arman. Adan Canto, your memory will be cherished forever.”
Fox and Warner Bros. Television issued a joint statement, describing Canto as “a wonderful actor and dear friend” and recognizing his remarkable talent showcased in “The Cleaning Lady.” They expressed their deep condolences to his wife, Stephanie, their children, and loved ones, stating, “We will miss Adan dearly.”
