The Evil Dead will return to theatres later this year to celebrate its 40th anniversary, demonstrating Sam Raimi’s micro-budget horror classic’s enduring popularity. In addition, Bruce Campbell, who is always groovy, will give a special introduction to the audience.
Fathom Events and Grindhouse Releasing will bring exclusive limited screenings to cinemas across the country. At the same time, Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release a collector box set of The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and three Ash vs. the Evil Dead seasons.

What was the plot of the film?
The Demonic Dead established a great franchise that is still going strong today. Still, it was a micro-budget horror picture in 1981 that brought us now-classic horror tropes like the lodge in the woods, reading Latin aloud to revive evil spirits, and one of the most famous heroes of all time – Campbell’s Ash.
The original Evil Dead follows Ash, his fiancée, his sister, and their pals as they spend the weekend in a rural cabin. They discover the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis (aka The Book of the Dead) in the basement and accidentally resurrect the dead when they read Latin aloud. What follows is a great blend of humor, comedy, and horror, as the occupants get possessed and fight to the death.
What is Campbell’s reaction to the same?
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Campbell revealed that he and his wife disagree on how many years it has been.”I wouldn’t call it the 40th anniversary; I’d call it the 42nd,” Campbell stated.

“There is always a gap between when the film was shot and when it was released. And with Evil Dead, it was probably two or three years since we shot it in 1979, so we’re approaching 42-odd years later. But it’s a lot of fun to celebrate!”He also revealed that his introduction is being shot at a drive-in theatre and grateful for the film’s continued popularity.
What is this film gonna follow?
While the first film had a soft reboot in 2013, Evil Dead Rise will follow the original trilogy and be one of the first films to take action in an urban setting. The female protagonists will be two separated sisters who must reconnect to escape another Deadite rebirth when the city is taken over. Alyssa Sutherland of the Vikings and Lily Sullivan of the Mental will play the two sisters.
