Popular website ‘What’s-on-Netflix’ speculates the release of Vikings seasons on Netflix UK and US by 2024 and 2025. ‘Vikings’ first premiered on television in 2013 and lasted for six vikings seasons ending its successful run in 2020. ‘Vikings’ was created by Michael Hirst and was produced by MGM Television. The show was an original HISTORY channel series and ran on the network from season 1 till season 6, Part-A, after which the second part of the final season premiered on Amazon Prime Video.
Vikings is a historical, action-adventure drama that chronicles the life and adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok, a Viking farmer, and his rise as the commander of the Viking Tribes.
Netflix announces the ‘Vikings’ spin-off called ‘Vikings- Valhalla.’
In 2019, it was announced that Netflix commissioned the spin-off of ‘Vikings.’ The new show, created by Michael Hirst and written by Jeb Stuart, is called ‘Vikings- Valhalla’ and is set to release sometime in 2021. The show started shooting in Ireland in 2020 but faced many delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The show’s first look was released as part of Netflix’s Geeked Week in June of 2021. The show will be set 100 years after the events of the original series and will chronicle the adventures of legendary Vikings like Leif Eriksson, Harald Hardrada, and Freydis Eriksdotter.
Because of this, Netflix has been in talks of licensing the rights around the world to host the complete original series on their platform. Currently, many European and Asian countries and Canada can stream the complete series on Netflix; however, the show is yet to make it to Netflix UK and US.
Are there any new announcements?
Although the news website, ’What’s-on-Netflix,’ which updates its readers on upcoming web series and films on the site, has speculated that the show will arrive on Netflix UK in 2024 and on Netflix US in 2025, however, Netflix hasn’t made any such official announcements.
Since Amazon is in talks to buy MGM, the future of whether the complete series of Vikings will ever make it to Netflix is unlikely. Netflix might be able to acquire the US and UK rights for the show after Amazon’s licensing rights expire, which doesn’t work for another 3 to 4 years.
