Cobra Kai, the popular karate-filled family comedy-drama based on the 1980s film series The Karate Kid, has been renewed for Season 5 by OTT platform Netflix. This renewal comes months ahead of the premiere of Season 4 of the family-favourite series.
Cobra Kai picks up 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, with the animosity between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence continuing and the next generation of young karate students.
The announcement of Season 5 stands to reason, given that the popular series was nominated for four Emmys in July, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy, Outstanding Stunt Performance, and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy.
Season 4 continues from where Season 3 left off, with Daniel and Johnny combining their dojos to face the evil John Kreese (Martin Kove) at the All Valley Tournament. The season is themed around The Karate Kid Part III, and it will feature the return of Kreese’s villainous buddy Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith).

Cobra Kai, developed by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald and produced by Sony Pictures Television, started on YouTube for two seasons as part of the company’s venture into original programming. It was then purchased by Netflix in 2020 and blossomed into a smash after that.
